| Photographer: RICHARD PETOCZ | View all photos by this photographer I shoot a D2X primarily, (since November of 2008), which I just can’t get enough of. It truly is a great camera and in my opinion, is the ‘digital version’ of the F5, (on steroids). I also shoot an F5, (nothing but slide film here), and love the fact that I can use the same lens for both cameras. The 1.5 ratio difference in the sensor of the D2X is not that bad of an inconvenience.I am what I can only refer to as a 'Photo-Artist'. In a nutshell, I manually alter the medium on 80% of the photos I take by painstakingly hand painting them with a digital painting program by Corel. In the 10 plus years, (since 1998/1999), that I’ve been in the “serious mode” of photography, I have developed a technique of my own that I apply to most of my photographs to this day. Each photo is different and the time it takes me to do one very much depends on the photo and the effect I’m after. However, on average, it takes about 24 hours of time to do one photo. I have done photos like “High Tide” which took about 96 hours and even one or two that have taken 2 weeks with putting in 12 to 16 hours at a time per day that I was off and averaging 5 hours per day during the week while on my work days. I only point this out in an attempt to dispel any thoughts of “point and click” painting. The results of my photos cannot be achieved by such a method. Of the remaining 20% of my photos, about 5% are manipulated through other means, (such as B&W or Sepia change), and the last 15% are handled like most photographers. I also offer several variations of some of my work. I am artist and have been 'manipulating' things that I drew and/or painted since I was 8 years old, (over 46 years ago). I see no reason to not admit manipulation in photography as some photographers stress in their claims. As an artist, I create what looks pleasant, engaging, dark, light, happy and sad to me at the time and many people I've met seem to like it. However, as with any art, there are many that don't like my work; it's a fact of life and the nature of art in general. |
