Metatags do
play a
significant role in your
ranking, not the most
important, but
significant enough for many search
engines. Frequently
update your pages, and be sure
that your "Revisit"
meta tag states "every 30
days." Search engines
like fresh content!
Another important
factor affecting
ranking is the proper use of
the "Title" meta
tag. You
should have at least five of
your most relevant keywords in
your title and optionally your
site name. Use a maximum of 100 characters.
Your "Description"
meta tag should be a maximum of
256 characters and should
contain at least five of your
most relevant keywords.
Your
"Keywords" meta tag
should be a maximum of 512
characters and should contain
not only keywords, but also
keyphrases that you think
surfers will use to search
with to find sites such as
yours. You may repeat the same
keyword up to seven times, but
no more than this.
Check out
my newest free online tool, the
Meta
Tag Generator, which
will compose a complete set of
metatags, optimized to give the
search engines all of the
important data they require in
the format they require it,
including tips for each meta
tag and how to use them for higher ranking.
I would also recommend
regularly checking the
top
30 words and phrases
used by internet searchers
at Wordtracker.com. The list
is updated daily. This
can be very valuable
information. If any of these
keywords or phrases are
relevant to your site's
content, you should add to
them to your keyword list, in
the text on your page, and in
your title!

Q
From HankC: "I want
to substitute the submit
button with an image, but
maintain its process."
A From
Bubbels:
This code will
give your submit button (or
any button for that matter) an
image background. I also
included the code to change
the font for the button, which
might prove useful if the
default black font doesn't
show up well on the background
you want to use. The
image you use, of course, will
have to be uploaded to your
server. This code only works in
IE4+. In other browsers,
it
will appear as a regular form button.
Instructions:
Highlight
all code in the box below,
right click, and select
"Copy". Then
right click & select
"Paste" in your
page HMTL, replacing your
existing submit button code.
You must change the
following parameters in the
code to your choice of image
and colors:
IMAGEFILENAME.JPG,
font-family, font-size,
color, font-weight.
